The Wizarding World of New Zealand
There are 47 people per square mile in New Zealand. It is one of the least populated countries in the world, at least in terms of people. However, they have one of the highest animal to human ratios in the world—for every human resident, there are 5 sheep living on this small island nation!
The human count may be small, but it sure is special. In 1990, Ian Brackenbury Channell was appointed by the Prime Minister as the official “Wizard of New Zealand,” making it the first modern country to appoint an official national wizard. In 2021, his contract ended after two decades of service as an educator, comedian, magician and politician.
