My Side of the Mountain

About the Book
Since 1969, My Side of the Mountain has stolen hearts of readers around the world with the story of a 12-year-old boy and his falcon. For many, the idea of running away from home in search of a new life is a childhood right of passage. For Sam Gribley, it’s more than just an idea—he’s really doing it!
With only a few items in his pockets, Sam leaves behind his family and cramped New York City apartment in search of a new life in the nearby Catskill Mountains. As Sam creates a new life in the woods, he not only learns more about the natural world around him, but also himself, what he’s capable of, and what matters most.
My Side of the Mountain is an enchanting read for anyone who loves the great outdoors. It will transport you to a peaceful world amid the trees, plants and animals.
This coming-of-age story tackles ideas of independence, courage, friendship and connection to others, and the surrounding world. Perhaps the most important takeaway for young readers is that one doesn’t need to venture far to find beauty in nature or a new place to explore. Sam Gribley finds an entirely new adventure (and world of wonder) just a few hours from home. After reading My Side of the Mountain, don’t be surprised if you want to lace up your hiking books and hit the nearest trail.
While the author wrote this book for the pre-teen crowd, adults will also enjoy tagging along on Sam’s adventure. If you enjoy My Side of the Mountain, consider continuing the saga with Frightful’s Mountain and On the Far Side of the Mountain.

A First Time for Everything
Travel plays such an important role in our lives. It has the ability to change us for the better. It’s an experiential education that teaches us how to feel, think, act, and react in positive ways. Travel fosters creativity, builds confidence, and teaches us all to be more tolerant. My own kids benefit from travel every time we hit the open road. No amount of money can buy those life lessons.
Travelnitch is inspiring the next generation of explorers. We believe travel is a wonderful way to ignite the imagination and get kids excited about the world. However, we need your help to make this possible. Please spread the word and support our efforts to raise citizens of the world. Let’s go on this adventure together!
