Snail Mail is Fun

Long before the bills begin to roll in there is a time in our lives when mail is fun. Walking to the mailbox and seeing an envelope with your name on it from some unknown address far, far away; Opening it and knowing that someone in the world is thinking about you — it’s a really great feeling.

One website has found a way to generate those warm, fuzzies over and over again. It’s called:

mail is fun

What began as a student project back in 2005 now reaches more than 772,000 members across 208 countries. Send a postcard and get one in return — it’s that simple. The best part? It’s FREE!

If you like receiving mail, you’ll love this site, and it’s perfect for kids who want to learn more about people and places around the world. Unlike a pen pal program, you aren’t tied to one person. With each postcard you send, you receive one from a new friend in a new country getting a sneak peek at life across the globe.

My kids just signed up, so I’ll be sure to update this post when we receive our very first postcard. Likewise, please share your experience in the comments below. Postcrossing allows members to send up to five postcards at one time, which means your mailbox could be overflowing before you know it.

UPDATE: We received our first postcard from Germany! Check it out: https://www.postcrossing.com/postcards/DE-8741116

So what are you waiting for? Sign up, send a postcard, and let the fun begin!
