clipart challenge
We are big into the arts in our household — actually, that’s probably an understatement. It’s one of our few obsessions outside of travel.
Both of my girls love to draw, paint, craft, sing, dance and act in local theater. We are so lucky to have such a strong artistic presence in our hometown. Needless to say, when we have free time, a lot of it is spent creatively pursuing a variety of art projects.
The #clipartchallenge
Most recently my daughter Evie has introduced me to something she calls the #clipartchallenge. We scour the internet for a fun clipart image and then take about 10-15 minutes to do an imitation sketch. What I really love about this activity is how different they look when we’re done. Our styles are so uniquely our own and it really shows. I always try to remind Evie that art is very personal. No one sketch is better or worse than another, just different, which makes it that much more beautiful.
Making the Connection
So now, of course, I’m thinking about all the great ways we can connect the #clipartchallenge to travel. We have started picking images of our favorite places or must-see iconic landmarks from our travel bucketlist.
Now, this spontaneous game that started off with us sketching random images, has evolved into an awesome conversation-starter — about the Great Pyramids, Stonehenge, the Leaning Tower of Pisa and Hanging Gardens of Babylon. I am always surprised (and excited) by the boundless curiosity that ignites from that one little spark.
